MANUEL DAVID ESQUIBEL MAY 9, 1932-MAY 17, 2017

Beloved Manuel David Esquibel- a spiritual, warm, kind, peaceful/stubborn and loving father, abuelo, brother, uncle, mentor, coach, master educator: Passed away peacefully on May 17th of natural causes. David is preceded in death by his mother Rebecca Abeyta Esquibel, father Alfredo Esquibel; brothers Richard (Dicky) and Alfredo Esquibel, sisters Elisa Rodriguez and Beatrice Randolph; and daughter-in-law Cara Esquibel. He is survived by sons David, Michael, and Albert Esquibel; brothers Belarmino, Leo, and Gaspar Esquibel; sisters Rebecca Deyapp, Connie Branch, and Maria Crosswhite; brothersin-law Max Randolph, Louie Rodriguez; sister-in-law Margaret Esquibel; grandchildren Diego and Ana Perea, Lucia and Joaquin Esquibel; honorary grandchild Alexa Chavez. David was born on May ninth, 1932 in Las Nutrias, N.M.-a small outcropping of homes that lie three miles NE off of highway 84 and South of Tierra Amarilla. It is there that a young David played in the meadows with his siblings and tended to the chores of the Esquibel ranch. When he did not feel like doing his chores, he sought refuge down-the-dirt-road at his favorite tia Luz’s home where she would pamper him with homemade tortillas, warm bread, freshroasted pinon, or hand-made fudge. At the age of nine, he was sent to Santa Fe to attend St. Michael’s boarding school and thus began a long life of learning and giving back to community. He spent some high school years in Louisiana and then moved to Managua, Nicaragua to continue teaching and coaching as a Christian brother. Later on, he worked for the United States Information Service at a cultural center teaching English as a Second Language. David returned to the U.S with his wife Nancy and three sons and began teaching at Los Alamos Public Schools. He taught Spanish and History at Cumbres Middle School and also coached football. He attended U.N.M and received master’s degrees in counseling as well as educational administration. He then went on to become a counselor and eventual principal at Barranca Mesa Elementary School. David spent his final stage in education in Albuquerque as a religious educator at Prince of Peace Parish while also doing incredible outreach work with newly released inmates. David was a proud Lobo and anti-Dallas Cowboy fan; he loved listening to the birds in the early morning, talking politics with uncle Steve Deyapp in the afternoons, and eating pralines and cream ice cream anytime; day or night. He will be dearly missed. The life of David Esquibel will be celebrated on Friday May 26, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Services will begin at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to any educational organizations that support marginalized populations.

Richard Chavez 11/17/1987~05/24/2012 5 Year Anniversary

We want to thank everyone for their support over these past years; your kindness has meant a lot to us.

It has been a hard journey, but with you all by our side we have been able to endure. It is with your memories that he is alive in our hearts.

A quote that he would live his life by,

"I guess the real fact of the matter is... we don’t know what tomorrow will bring, and the only thing we really have is... right now. So don’t stay mad for too long. Learn to forgive and love with all your heart. Live everyday of your life the way you want to live it. Don’t worry about people who don’t like you. Enjoy the ones who love you."

Thenk you, The Vigil Family

ED VISER

Edmund D. Viser, 85, of Taos, New Mexico passed away on May 21, 2017. He was born on November 28, 1931 in Cleveland, Tennessee to Edmund D. Viser II and Mary Stephens Ashe.

Some of the highlights of Ed’s life include his undergraduate degree at The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and as such was a diehard Tar Heel fan and had an extreme dislike of Duke. He served in the United States Air Force ultimately obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant and honorably discharged December 15, 1954. Graduate from New York Theological Seminary in New York City where he met and ultimately married Peggy Taylor. After their marriage they served as Pastors for the Presbyterian Church on Laguna Indian Reservation for 7 years. Other Pastoral assignments included First Presbyterian Church in Leoti, KS an Associate Pastor assignment with the Church at El Paso, TX for 4 years then accepted a call to be the Pastor at Capital Christian Church in Santa Fe, NM for 15 years. After some time away from ministry he accepted a call from his friend Pastor Marcus McClain, the District Presbyter of the Northern New Mexico District of the Assemblies of God. Ed served as the Pastor at Christian Family Church in Taos for 12 years till he retired. Aside from the time he spent in the ministry he taught at Western New Mexico State University in Silver City, NM.

In retirement he loved spending time with grandkids and looked for any opportunity possible to go fishing with them or alone, any excuse to throw a line in the water and he was ready. Trains were also a love of his along with the great state of New Mexico. In his final years he found any excuse to roam the streets and coffee shops, grocery stores and even Walmart talking to just about anyone he came across. He fought every suggestion to move, New Mexico was where his heart lay and it’s only fitting that he passed into eternity in his sleep in Taos.

A family and close friends’ graveside service with military honors will be held at a future date at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Friends are invited to join the family at a Celebration of Life service to be held at The Light of Mission Viejo in Santa Fe, NM on Thursday, May 25 at 1:00pm. My soul’s spirit friend and I follow the birds into the sky.

We dance with angel clouds, whose soft white wings brush our tears away.

We summersault across the heavens, and laugh as lightning tosses us with hail.

The rolling sounds of thunder follow as we slide down mountains where clouds are born.

And landing here on planet earth, we watch the setting sun paint clouds in azure, purple, and cobalt blue. Pink, and orange, and gold, and finally---black.

Today we said goodbye. But surely over distant mountains our souls shall one day meet and play.
