From The Santa Fe New Mexican:

May 24, 1917: “The Colors Call; I Have Answered,” is the slogan which has been adopted by the New Mexico Council of Defense and approved by the Council of National Defense, for use throughout New Mexico on registration day, June 5.

The slogan was suggested by Guthrie Smith, well-known newspaperman, who has just been named publicity agent for the Council of State Defense, and who assumed his duties today. May 24, 1967: Consuelo Hernandez is confused. “I haven’t put my property up for sale, no one has asked me if my land is for sale, yet someone wants to take it away from me. “I didn’t think this kind of thing could happen in America!”

Miss Hernandez is one of more than 40 business and property owners within the boundary of the proposed Santa Fe Urban Renewal project and perhaps the hardest hit by the swift sickle which may level four square blocks of the city southwest of the plaza. She, along with her sister, Maria, is owner-manager of the Five Points Liquor Store.

Unlike many buildings within the area proposed to be razed, the Hernandez’ don’t claim to have something of historical value — “It’s out bread and butter. It puts food on the table for five people in our family. I want to keep it.”

However, despite their shrugging off the historic portion, the land on which the building stands does have significance. Their greatgreat-grandfather first bought the property in the late 1700s or early 1800s. He built a blacksmith shop adjacent to where the store now stands. May 24, 1992: DIXON — Two years ago, a number of Dixon residents decided that their community needed a place where their children could go to learn more about the world and experience adventure. Today, they will see that dream come true when the Dixon Community Library official opens its doors.
