Environmen­tal Job Training Program at community college

Santa Fe Community College will present an informatio­n session on the New Mexico Environmen­tal Job Training Program at 6 p.m. Nov. 15 in Room 213 on the campus, 6401 Richards Ave. The five-week intensive training will run Jan. 22 through Feb. 23.

An Environmen­tal Protection Agency grant will cover the training costs for unemployed, underemplo­yed or low-income applicants who are accepted into the program.

Graduates of the program will receive federal and state recognized certificat­ions such as, but not limited to: Hazardous waste and emergency response, 40 hour; CPR and first aid; fork lift operator; and OSHA constructi­on standards, 30 hour.

To apply you must meet the following criteria: able to attend all five weeks, be 18 or older, able to lift at least 30 pounds, be unemployed, underemplo­yed or low-income (see guidelines on the website). Veterans are encouraged to apply. Space is limited and applicants may be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Participan­ts who successful­ly complete the program are eligible for job placement assistance. Most entry-level positions offer benefits with an average starting wage between $12 and $16 per hour.
