It is with great sadness that the family of Shirley Ann Cook announce her passing at the age of 82. Shirley passed away peacefully at her home on October 29, 2017 following a lengthy illness.

Shirley was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma on June 10, 1935 to the late Warren and Maude Gordon. She and her family lived in many places before they settled down in Espanola when she was in her teens. She graduated from Espanola High School in 1953. Shortly after moving to Espanola, Shirley met a charming and handsome young man named Richard P. Cook and soon after they were married. Together Shirley and Richard owned and operated several businesses in and around Espanola, Los Alamos and Santa Fe, including Cook’s Home Center, Espanola Transit Mix, Los Alamos Transit Mix, Associated Asphalt and Materials and EMCO of Santa Fe. Shirley was a very kind and gentle soul. She had a loving and generous heart, and did everything she could to make a happy home for her husband and daughters.

Shirley and Richard were blessed with four daughters, Deborah Ann Cook, Kelly Marie Cook, Kim Alison Cook and Katharine Alison Cook.

Shirley was predecease­d by her devoted husband of 63 years, Richard P. Cook in 2017, her beloved daughter Kim Alison Cook in 1968, her parents, Warren and Maude Gordon, and siblings Helen Freeman and Bill “Sonny” Gordon. Shirley is survived by her daughters Debbie Cantrup of Espanola, Kelly Armstrong and husband Hal Armstrong of Espanola, Katharine Fishman and husband Andrew Fishman of Albuquerqu­e; her grandchild­ren, Lisa Bakosi and husband Jozsef Bakosi, Chelsea Cantrup, Kacie Caster and husband Matt Caster, Sarah Armstrong, Jacob Fishman, Kalyssa Fishman, and Zachary Fishman; and her great grandchild­ren, Peter Bakosi, Corinne Bakosi, Hunter Cantrup, Alexys Caster, Richard Caster and Brandon Caster; her sister Mary Louise Gordon Toledo of Albuquerqu­e, New Mexico, and many adoring nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Amy Armstrong and Wendy Staude for their care and support of Shirley in her later years and ultimately in her final days.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Shirley A. Cook will be held this Friday, November 3, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at DeVargas Funeral Home and Crematory.
