Suspects in home invasion arrested

-

Sheriff ’s deputies arrested three suspects in connection with a northern Santa Fe County home invasion and armed robbery in which a Texas man tied the residents’ hands at gunpoint and made off with cash and other valuables, Sheriff Robert Garcia said in a news release Tuesday.

Before noon Monday, a Santa Cruz woman awoke to the sound of the back door of her residence being kicked in, the statement said. Tyrone R. Davis, 37, of Pflugerville, Texas, a suburb of Austin, pointed a firearm at her and asked her to tell him who else was in the house, investigators said. When the woman’s husband approached, Davis — wielding a handgun with a laser attachment — threatened to kill the man, court records say.

Davis eventually told three residents of the home to lie down while he tied their hands behind their backs, according to the release. Davis made off with $200 in cash and other valuables, including home video surveillance equipment, the release says.

Deputies arrested Davis on Tuesday at the Ohkay Owingeh casino and booked him into jail on suspicion of more than a dozen felony charges, including kidnapping, armed robbery, assault with intent to commit a violent felony and larceny.

Deputies also booked Chimayó residents Carmela Mercedes Moreno, 23, and Manuelita Salazar, 48, as suspected accomplices. Arrest statements say Moreno and Salazar hatched a plan with Davis to commit the robbery as revenge for the theft of a purse from the Chimayó residence where Davis was staying.
