From The Santa Fe New Mexican: Dec. 1, 1917: To the President White House Washington, D.C. We wish you know that the mass meeting held here last night, from which a resolution was sent to you concerning the treatment of suffrage pickets did not represent the views of the men and women of Santa Fe.

Not over 70 people attended the meeting and a number of them were children and young girls.

Sentiment throughout New Mexico is strong against pickets, notwithstanding the message you are receiving through the efforts of Miss Anne Martin.

Mrs. W.E. Lindsey, Acting State Chairman National American Woman’s

Suffrage Association The foregoing telegram was sent today by the wife of the governor to the White House to counteract the effect of the resolutions wired as a result of the meeting held by Miss Martin last night.

In addition, Mrs. Lindsey and many prominent Santa Fe women proposed statements condemning the tactics of the picketeers as “silly,” “futile,” “unseemly,” “willful,” “harmful” and otherwise.

Construction on the 140,000 square-foot store could start in February, Fred Woods said.

Also Monday, the new Sam’s Club Members Only store on Rodeo Road continued screening applicants for the 150 full-and part-time employees it needs.
