Three Santa Fe-area people are among 27 exceptiona­l science and mathematic­s students named Adams State University Porter Scholars for 2017-18. This year, the program awarded $89,500 for scholarshi­ps and focused academic programs. Located in Alamoso, Colo., Adams State offers in-state tuition to New Mexico

residents. The Porter Scholars:

Noel Prandoni, daughter of Manita Prandoni and Peter Prandoni, is a graduate of Santa Fe High School. She has an interdisci­plinary major with emphases in biology, biochemist­ry, adventure leadership and sociology. This is her fourth year as a Porter Scholar. She also received adventure sports and athletic scholarshi­ps. Her goal is to become a climbing guide in South America.

Isabel Rodriguez, daughter of Bill Rodriguez and Laura Mayo-Rodriguez, is a graduate of the Academy for Technology and the Classics. She is majoring in physics and pre-engineerin­g and hopes to enter the field of environmen­tal engineerin­g. She also received the Vice President’s Merit Scholarshi­p, the Woodard Memorial Scholarshi­p and the New Mexico Trails Girl Scout Gold Award Scholarshi­p.

Wyatt Moran, son of Michael Moran and Dawn Wink, is a graduate of St. Michael’s High School. He is majoring in wildlife biology and is a member of the Adams State climbing team and the Adams State Adventure Program. He also received the Vice President’s Merit Scholarshi­p, the Donald Hilton Hopper Memorial Scholarshi­p and an adventure sports scholarshi­p. This is his fourth year as a Porter Scholar.

The late William A. Porter and his wife, Joan, establishe­d the Porter Scholars Program in 2007 through the largest gift in Adams State history: $5.8 million worth of stock in E*TRADE, which Porter founded in 1983. Porter went on to launch the Internatio­nal Securities Exchange. Dubbed “the forefather of online trading,” Porter earned a degree in mathematic­s from Adams State in 1951.

Colorado State University–Pueblo has named its 2017 fall semester Dean’s List. The following area students have made the list: Eric D. Schmalz of Los Alamos and Alexander I. Kerr of Santa Fe.
