Presbyterian Healthcare Services, scheduled to open a new hospital on Santa Fe’s south side this fall, is looking to hire up to 350 employees for the center through a series of career fairs beginning Monday.

More than 100 of the jobs will be filled by nurses, chief nursing officer Terri Marney said in an interview Wednesday. “We are going to be looking for nurses throughout New Mexico and beyond New Mexico,” she added.

Presbyterian, the largest health care provider in the state and New Mexico’s second-largest employer with more than 11,000 workers, is opening what will be the nonprofit medical organization’s ninth hospital in the state and only the second full-service hospital in Santa Fe since St. Vincent Hospital, now called Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center, opened its doors 150 years ago. The Albuquerque-based organization also runs a clinic on St. Michael’s Drive.

The $145 million hospital project began in September 2016 on 40 acres in the Los Soleras development off Interstate 25 and Cerrillos Road.

Presbyterian Santa Fe Medical Center, a 342,000-squarefoot facility with an around-the-clock emergency department and an urgent care center, will have 30 private inpatient beds, a six-bed family birthing unit, laboratory and imaging services, a rehabilitation facility, surgical suites and specialty services, according to information provided by Presbyterian.

Paul Gonzales, Presbyterian’s recruiting director, said the hospital will be hiring “clinical as well as nonclinical employees.”

Clinical staff members include workers such as physi-

cians, nurses and therapists, while nonclinical support positions range from food service workers to housekeepers to administrative and maintenance positions, Gonzales said.

The majority of the staff would start work in the fall, though some hired in management positions will start this summer for training.

Advertisements for nurses are being placed on major jobs boards and posted on social media, Gonzales said. “We will also target all the great nurses in New Mexico.”

Gonzales and Marney said nurses’ salaries would be competitive and that Presbyterian has support programs for nursing staff, including scholarships for college completion.

“We really feel that Presbyterian is a great working environment,” Marney said.

Six career fairs are scheduled between Monday and late August at the Inn at Santa Fe hotel, 8376 Cerrillos Road. The first three fairs are for clinical positions only, while the latter three are for all positions. The events will be on the final Monday of each month, but each will be held at a different time of day. Monday’s fair will be from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Job candidates are encouraged to check www.phs.org/careers and submit applications online prior to the job fairs.

Light food and beverages will be served during the fairs.

Applicants will be able to speak with recruiters and hiring managers and should expect to spend up to two hours at the event, Gonzales said.
