SIEGFRIED MAXIMILIAN HALUS, APRIL 8, 1943 - MARCH 27, 2018.

Siegfried Halus died after a short illness in Santa Fe, NM, at the age of 74. Born in Salzburg, Austria, Siegfried immigrated with his family to the United States in the early 1950s. He grew up in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia and studied sculpture at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, receiving his BFA from the University of Pennsylvania and an MFA from the Hartford Art School. A renowned contemporary fine arts photographer, Siegfried taught at the University of Hartford Art School, the University of Connecticut (Storrs) School of Fine Arts, and Tufts University/The Boston Museum School. After moving to Santa Fe in 1990 he taught photography at the Institute of American Indian Art and served as chair of the visual and performing arts division at Santa Fe Community College, where he oversaw planning and completion of the Fine Arts Complex. Siegfried was a 2005 recipient of the City of Santa Fe Mayor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts, for "dedication to the visual arts." His photographs are in private and museum collections around the world. His most recent exhibition was a one-man show at Daniel Cooney Fine Art in New York City in January - February 2018. Siegfried Halus is survived by his son, Maximilian O’Donnell Halus of Cambridge, MA; his sisters Stefanie Tashjian (Donald) and Erika Chisholm Edmands (Geoffrey), and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. A beloved teacher and mentor, Siegfried is also survived by countless students, collaborators, and close friends. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
