EDUCATION STANDOUTS
Steve De Leon has successfully defended his dissertation and earned a doctral degree in instructional design from Capella University. De Leon worked hard to achieve this goal over the past five years and plans to use his knowledge to improve training and curriculum development within corporations and nonprofit organizations throughout New Mexico. His family wishes him the best of luck in his continued research in the area of interpersonal collaboration using learning technologies, and all his future endeavors.
Emma Cohen, daughter of Ronnie and Joe Cohen, recently was awarded a Master of Liberal Arts in Sustainability from Harvard University. Emma is living in Whistler, Canada, pursuing a passion of reducing waste of single-use plastic pollution by developing and promoting a collapsible and reusable straw.
The National Merit Scholarship Corp. has announced winners of National Merit Scholarships financed by U.S. colleges and universities. These awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study. Area winners include Sarah M. Russell, Sarah J. Shipley and Olivia A. Taylor from Los Alamos, and Van Eun-Wook Karlson Leeson and Joseph S. Murray from Santa Fe.
Santa Fe County Farm & Livestock Bureau has chosen Emma Cameron as the 2018-19 Bud Hagerman Memorial Scholarship recipient. Cameron is a 2018 graduate of the MASTERS Program and Santa Fe Community College.
Cameron, the daughter of Andy and Karen Cameron of Santa Fe, will attend Cornell University to study agriculture business and plans to later attend law school.
She is an honor graduate, completed a mentorship with a New Mexico assistant attorney general and traveled around the U.S. as the national high school rodeo queen. Her other academic activities included Model United Nations, World Affairs Council Academic World Trivia Quest, a mentorship with San Cristobal Ranch and mentorship with the Santa Fe Council on International Relations.
Her club activities include Santa Fe County 4-H, Santa Fe Barrel Racers, New Mexico High School Rodeo Association, Bosque Farms Junior Rodeo Association, National Barrel Horse Association, American Quarter Horse Association and Genoveva Chavez Center Club Volleyball.
