From The Santa Fe New Mexican: July 24, 1918: Robert M. Scott, who is in the quartermas­ter’s corps at Camp Meigs, Washington, D.C., is home on a furlough, visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William M. Scott. Mrs. Scott and baby will remain in Santa Fe. Roswell N.M., July 21 — Clayton Ferris has left here for El Paso where he will undergo an examinatio­n for entrance to the navy. He has

resigned a place in a local bank to serve his country.

Reese Fullerton, of this city, land agent for the U.S. land office, leaves the 29th to go into a Georgia training camp. July 24, 1968: Ben A. Ortega, candidate for the Democratic nomination for state representa­tive from District 3, has been disqualifi­ed.

Mrs. Pita T. Gonzales, county clerk, said Ortega cannot qualify for the position because he does not live in District 3.

Mrs. Gonzales said she was given affidavits by Don J. Ortiz, another candidate for the position, and Santa Fe attorney Neil C. Stillings, stating that Ortega does not live at the address listed on his filing form.

July 24, 1993: The tradition of Spanish Market now will be influenced by a contempora­ry leader.

Fred Cisneros, 29, is the new president of the board of the Spanish Colonial Arts Society, which sponsors Spanish Market.

Cisneros and vice president Carmella Padilla, 29, are the first Hispanics to serve in the board’s highest positions. They were selected for the posts in May.
