ST. MICHAEL’S HORSEMEN

-

Last year: 9-2 overall, 6-0 in District 2/5-4A (lost to Hatch Valley in state quarterfinals) Head coach: Joey Fernandez (17th season) Key players: Tayo Regenold, senior, 6-foot2, 291 pounds, OL/DL; Alejandro Talamantes, senior, 5-9/192, RB/LE; Jake Tupler, senior, 6-4/191, TE/DE; Dominic Morgan, senior, 5-10/181, QB/LB; Hayden Lee, senior, 6-3/165, WR/CB; Luke Kastendieck, senior, 5-11/154, WR/CB; Derek Roybal, junior, 5-9/185, RB/LB; Andrew Salazar, senior, 5-9/207, OL/DL; Jaden Misfud, junior, 5-11/182, OL/LB; Seth Temple, junior, 6-0/200, OL/DL.

Outlook: Speed. It’s something the Horsemen have a lot of, particularly at the skill positions where most of those players were part of the school’s track team last spring. They also have plenty of power with a beefed-up line that features 291-pound tackle Tayo Regenold to block for an entirely new backfield that has senior Dominic Morgan at QB. Regenold set three team weightlifting records in the offseason while fellow OL Adrian Balderamos set another. The team has rallied around the battle cry, “Unfinished business,” hearkening back to last November when it entered the playoffs as the No. 1 seed but lost at home in the quarterfinals.
