THE PAST 100 YEARS

Santa Fe New Mexican - - LOCAL& REGION -

From the Santa Fe New Mexican:

Oct. 13, 1968: About 36 per cent of the road improvement projects in the Santa Fe Paving District have been completed and construction on other projects in the district is right on schedule, according to City Engineer Ormonde Earpe.

The initial paving district consisted of 16 projects and was later reduced to half that number. The total cost of the projects in the district is $239,911.

The New Mexico State Highway Department is participating in one third of the cost or about $71,000.

Oct. 13, 1993: There are “pervasive problems” with medical care at the Penitentiary of New Mexico, and some of those problems were reflected in the prison deaths of three inmates last year, a federal court monitor says in a new report.

The report also says the performance of Correctional Medical Systems, the private firm hired to provide medical services for men’s prisons in New Mexico, has been “less than satisfactory” and “has fallen short of reasonable expectations according to several critical measures.”
