HOW TO HELP
Several community organizations offer opportunities to contribute to those in need during the holiday season. Here are some ways to help:
The National Association of Letter Carriers and the U.S. Postal Service will host a communitywide food drive Nov. 17. Fill a bag with nonperishable foods and leave it near your mailbox.
Bienvenidos Outreach, which serves lunches to the homeless and food baskets to low-income families, is seeking volunteers during the holiday season, along with donations of household goods, clothing and personal care items. For more information, call 505-986-0583.
Kitchen Angels seeks volunteers to prepare and deliver meals over the holidays. For more information, call 505-471-7780, ext. 2, or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Del Norte Credit Union is collecting coats of all sizes to help at-risk youth across Northern New Mexico. Drop off new or gently used coats through Nov. 30 at any branch. This year, the Esperanza Shelter, St. Elizabeth Shelter’s Casa Familia and the Adelante Program of Santa Fe Public Schools will receive the coats.
St. Elizabeth Shelter will be serving meals to men who stay there for Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you’d like to bring in a dish, call 505-982-6611.
The Food Depot is specifically looking for frozen turkeys and hams leading up to Thanksgiving and Christmas. Drop-off locations are listed at thefooddepot.org/ food-drives. Monetary donations are also welcome.
