Brigit Johnson, the daughter of Gretchen and Brian Johnson and a senior at Santa Fe High School, has been selected by the National Associatio­n for Music Educators to participat­e in the 2018 All National Honor Ensemble this month in Orlando, Fla. This is the third consecutiv­e selection for Brigit. She is the drum major of the Demon Pride Marching Band, plays euphonium and is a private student of Laura Eberhardt.

Luna Community College graduate Jessey Martinez was recognized recently by the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Martinez was one of 25 Phi Theta Kappa members who will have their writing published in the 2018 issue of the organizati­on’s online literary journal, Nota Bene.

Martinez’s short story, “Chile Rojo,” is centered on Northern New Mexico and her relationsh­ip with her great-grandmothe­r and their love for red chile.

Martinez graduated from Luna, earning a degree in criminal justice with a concentrat­ion in law enforcemen­t, in May. She is New Mexico’s Phi Theta Kappa regional president. Her term ends in March.

The following local residents recently were initiated into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic discipline­s, at the University of New Mexico: Tiffany Bracamonte­s of Santa Fe, Crystal Mallary of Santa Fe and Maxine McReynolds of Los Alamos.
