$1.29M grant to fund tran­sit dis­trict’s HQ im­prove­ments

The North Cen­tral Re­gional Tran­sit Dis­trict, which op­er­ates the “Blue Buses” on routes in an area from Santa Fe to Taos, has re­ceived a $1.29 mil­lion U.S. De­part­ment of Trans­porta­tion grant to fund im­prove­ments at the dis­trict’s Es­pañola head­quar­ters, New Mex­ico’s con­gres­sional del­e­ga­tion an­nounced Thurs­day.

“The award, which comes through the Bet­ter Uti­liz­ing In­vest­ment to Lever­age De­vel­op­ment (BUILD) Grants pro­gram, will en­able North Cen­tral RTD to build a main­te­nance fa­cil­ity, stand­alone ve­hi­cle wash bay, and fu­el­ing sta­tion,” U.S. Sens. Tom Udall and Martin Hein­rich and U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Lu­ján said in a news re­lease.

The dis­trict pro­vides trans­porta­tion that is “in­dis­pens­able to North­ern New Mex­ico” con­nect­ing com­mu­ni­ties and busi­nesses, the del­e­ga­tion said.

“Grants are awarded to projects that will have a sig­nif­i­cant lo­cal or re­gional im­pact,” ac­cord­ing to the state­ment.
