Ed­die (Hud­son Yang) des­per­ately wants to spend Christ­mas in New York with close friend and for­mer neigh­bor Ni­cole (Luna Blaise), but Jes­sica (Con­stance Wu) firmly de­clares he must fol­low their fam­ily’s tra­di­tion of spend­ing the hol­i­day to­gether in the new episode “Cousin Ed­die.” As the pair en­gage in a bat­tle of wills, Louis and Evan (Ran­dall Park, Ian Chen) try to help Emery (For­rest Wheeler) de­cide which of his many friends he should in­vite to Christ­mas Eve din­ner.

In the af­ter­math of an un­for­tu­nate Christ­mas tree fire, Maya (Min­nie Driver) tries to smooth things over with a small lie that winds up hav­ing mas­sive con­se­quences in this new hol­i­day episode. Else­where, hap­less Ray (Ma­son Cook) is forced to live in the shadow of Pep­per the dog, a sit­u­a­tion that Dy­lan (Kyla Kenedy) ex­ploits glee­fully. JJ (MIcah Fowler) urges Ken­neth (Cedric Yar­brough) to stand up to his strong-willed sis­ters (guest stars Niecy Nash, Lisa Les­lie).

Carl Reiner se­lected two of his fa­vorite episodes to be col­orized for this year’s edi­tion of a TV tra­di­tion. First, the 1961 episode “Where Did I Come From?” finds Rob and Laura (Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore) shar­ing their me­mories of the days lead­ing up to Richie’s (Larry Mathews) birth after their 6-year-old son asks the tit­u­lar ques­tion. Then, in “Never Bathe on Satur­day” from 1965, the Petries’ ro­man­tic sec­ond hon­ey­moon goes sour when Laura’s toe gets stuck in a bath­tub spout.
