What to think about improving efficiency?

-

What? Eliminate hundreds of New Mexico state government management positions and let actual workers do the work (“Winning the battle against bureaucracy creep,” Our View, Jan. 9)?

Reduce interoffice guff for reorganizations, planning meetings, feasibility studies, performance reviews, project evaluations, motivation retreats, memos, phone calls, emails and resource sharing?

Cut acquisition of all those buildings, cushy management furnishings, office supplies and utilities? All just for greater efficiency? Heresy, I say, heresy. As a former state worker, I can’t tell you what I think of this idea. I just can’t.

Grateful for kindness

Recently, I had to have emergency medical services take me to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center at night and in terrible road conditions. I want to commend EMS and fire department staffers who came to my rescue. They were professional and courteous.

When I was in a frantic state of mind, they were extremely helpful, assuring me that I was in good hands, and that everything would be all right — to trust them.

They also were so helpful in getting my puppy into her secure place when she was scared and wouldn’t come out from under the bed.

Also, the Christus St. Vincent emergency room staff was most courteous and thoughtful. Thank you to all involved.

God’s grace

I am a Democrat and always have been. But I do not owe my allegiance to a party or candidate. I owe my allegiance to God, and it is to Him I answer; when my body dies and begins to decay, my soul is going to everlasting life for centuries and centuries until the end of time.

What bothers me is that so many Democrats who support abortion — including winners of the recent state election — say they are Catholic. One side of their mouth says, “I am a Christian,” and the other says, “I am for pro-choice.”

I believe God is getting fed up with this, with people defying God’s commandments — mainly, “Thou shalt not kill.”

I also believe that the natural disasters such as fires, mudslides, earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes and diseases are happening because people are trying to replace God and do their thing because they think it’s better.

God has already shown us what he can do. He is not going to be defied by people who want to take the place of God.

I hope people guilty of this behavior can come back to their senses and ask for God’s forgiveness.

God will forgive them. Alfred Gonzales Santa Fe
