From the Santa Fe New Mexican: Feb. 18, 1919: Praise For Public Health Bill By Professor Clark

Feb. 18, 1969: The Senate Judiciary Committee Monday heard witness after witness — doctors, representatives of interest groups and private citizens — testify for or against three different abortion bills.

Sen. I. M. (Ike) Smalley, D-Hidalgo-Sierra-Luna, judiciary committee chairman, gave each witness all the time he needed to point out moral, medical or legal ramifications of each bill.

Feb. 18, 1994: Campaign fatigue appeared to be the source of wit for several mayoral candidates Thursday night as they participated in another in a series of forums.

Bookstore owner Peggy Frank ribbed competitor Tony Lopez about his cologne. Former cowgirl Gail Bochenek said she sees deceased artist Tommy Macaione’s face on signs in Santa Fe 20 years from now. And Sydney “Chad” Reagan, who works as a gas station attendant on Old Santa Fe Trail, joked that he’d like the city to send all the annoying traffic his way.

The form, sponsored by the Leadership Santa Fe Alumni Association, was the first of the campaign that was attended by all 12 mayoral candidates.

More than 400 people attended the event, held at Sweeney Convention Center.
