Filmmaker Bing Liu’s critically acclaimed and award-winning documentary Minding the Gap chronicles the lives of some of the director’s skateboarding friends in a small town outside Chicago from their teenage years to early adulthood. As the friends confront familiar life challenges, their shared passion for their sport becomes an activity that is both therapeutic and meditative, strengthening their bond as they encourage one another to try new stunts and just spend quality time together.

John Legend is an executive producer on this critically acclaimed 2018 documentary, which examines a largely unacknowledged African-American subculture of roller skaters, a community of thousands in a racially charged environment who are united in fighting the imminent closure of the last standing roller rinks in the United States. The film by Tina Brown and Dyana Winkler includes interviews with such hip-hop stars as Salt-NPepa, Coolio and Vin Rock of Naughty by Nature.
