One massive winter storm after another assails Dutch Harbor, Alaska, and the waters around it, causing more damage and injuries than the captains of the crab-fishing fleet have seen in years, as this still-compelling unscripted series opens Season 15. Captain Steve “Harley” Davidson, the cutthroat and no-nonsense skipper of the 148-foot-long Southern Wind, is new to the fleet this season, and he claims to know where a quarter of a billion dollars’ worth of crab are clustered in one massive horde.
8 p.m. on PBS Reconstruction: America After the Civil War
Historian and Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates explores a turbulent era he calls “one of the most overlooked, misunderstood and misrepresented [chapters] in American history” in this two-part, four-hour presentation, which concludes next Tuesday night. Tonight’s opener begins in the aftermath of the Civil War, as 4 million emancipated slaves find themselves with few actual rights or protections and surrounded by war-weary white Americans who are fiercely resistant to this seismic change in their world.
8 p.m. on CBS The Code
Dana Delany returns to series television in this new military drama set in the Judge Advocate General Headquarters of the U.S. Marine Corps in Quantico, Va., run by Col. Glenn Turnbull (Delany). In the series premiere, “Blowed Up,” prosecutor Capt. John “Abe” Abraham (Luke Mitchell) and lead defense attorney Capt. Maya Dobbins (Anna Wood) are assigned to the case of a soldier charged with murdering his commanding officer.
11 p.m. on FX Fosse/Verdon
Spanning five decades and moving back and forward through time, this new limited series explores the singular if turbulent romantic and creative partnership of director-choreographer Bob Fosse (Oscar winner Sam Rockwell, pictured) and song-and-dance superstar Gwen Verdon (four-time Oscar nominee Michelle Williams).
