Deeply disappointed
I am grievously disappointed that Sen. Martin Heinrich, D-N.M., would agree to support President Donald Trump’s choice to lead the Interior Department, David Bernhardt, a lawyer and lobbyist who has worked for clients in the oil and mining industry wanting to use public lands, with apparently no concern for environmental degradation (“Senators split on Interior nominee,” April 9). He also represented a district in California that wanted to end legal protection for endangered Chinook salmon. In previous statements, Heinrich has presented himself as a person with great concern for environmental protection. How can he support a nominee who has consistently supported those who would end environmental protection?
