A UNIVERSE OF STORIES: Registrati­on begins for Santa Fe Public Library’s 2019 summer reading program, an eight-week adventure that offers children through age 12 a chance to win a bicycle and attend free activities featuring live animals, theater shows, astronomy and more. TECH TALK: Nicholas Carr, the author of The Shallows: What the Internet Is Doing to Our Brains and The Big Switch: Rewiring the World, from Edison to Google, shares his views at 6:30 p.m. at the James A. Little Theater on the campus of the New Mexico School for the Deaf, 1060 Cerrillos Road. Tickets are $20; the talk is a School for Advanced Research annual President’s Lecture.

SCIENCE SATURDAYS: The Santa Fe Children’s Museum offers science fun for all ages from 1 to 3 p.m. with guest scientists and STEM instructor­s, by admission. STARGAZER SHOWS: The Children’s Museum presents educationa­l production­s in its Stargazer Portable Planetariu­m; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., by admission. SAND PLAY SATURDAY: Children are invited to visit the Railyard Park for Sand Play Saturday, an opportunit­y for toddlers all the way up through elementary school students to explore, discover and think creatively through sand, water, toys and kitchen utensils. Volunteers, experts in early childhood developmen­t and Railyard Park Conservanc­y staff facilitate creative play from 10 a.m. to noon in the park’s sand area. Early Childhood Developmen­t studies show that contact with nature has been associated with a number of health and cognitive benefits for children, such as increased creativity and reduced rates of aggression. The activity will be offered through Aug. 10.

MEET CORNELIUS: The Children’s Museum invites families to visit with corn snake Cornelius from 3 to 4:30 p.m., by admission. SENSORY FRIENDLY MORNING AT THE MUSEUM: Families who have children with autism or sensory sensitivit­ies can come to the Santa Fe Children’s Museum and enjoy quiet play from 10 a.m. to noon. This event features low lighting, trained staff and a large menu of sensory supports. Admission is $3 for members and $5 for nonmembers. OASIS FESTIVAL: Local youth invite the community to this free music event in the Santa Fe Railyard Plaza from 3 to 9 p.m. The festival will showcase several local youth acts and will finish with a nationally touring band — Los Angeles native psychedeli­c punkrock sensation Cherry Glazerr. Local youth acts include The High Vibes, SFYS Jazz Ensemble, NDVRS, Dzaki Sukarno, The Fantastic Foxes, 253rd Street and Arwyn. The event includes special performanc­es from Wise Fool New Mexico as well as local youth dancers. There will be several local food trucks available throughout the afternoon. Oasis Festival is produced by the Convergenc­e Project, a for-youth, by-youth organizati­on working to create opportunit­ies for teenage artists. Convergenc­e events are designed, produced, promoted and fundraised by teenage volunteers.

INTERPLANE­TARY FESTIVAL: This free annual event combines an exploratio­n of complex science and technologi­cal innovation with a summer festival full of music, film, art, food, drinks and more completely conceived, curated and executed by the Santa Fe Institute; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily from June 14 to 16 at the Santa Fe Railyard Park and SITE Santa Fe, 1606 Paseo de Peralta.
