Bethany Joy Lenz OF ‘PEARSON’ ON USA NETWORK

- BY JAY BOBBIN

How are you enjoying playing your “Pearson” character, Keri Allen?

It’s the most fun I’ve ever had at work! I’m so excited to play someone who is grouchy. I get cast a lot as the sweet girl next door or best friend, so it feels so good to be able to come in and play a character who’s allowed to just be all the different layers ... somebody who is capable of being really sweet and soft, but who also doesn’t let anything get in the way of her workload. It’s just that that’s where she’s so comfortable. It’s like you don’t step in front of a runner when they’re training for a marathon. It’s not that they’re trying to prove anything to anyone, they’re in their zone. And that’s where she is.

What do you think of your teamwork with Gina Torres as the title character, spun off from “Suits”?

I was really nervous about the first scene we did, which was the scene I had tested with. I had read with her in the test, so I knew the size of what and who I was dealing with – and she’s great. She’s so generous and professional and engaging, and willing to play. She’s a really open artist, which is not always easy to find.
