STARGAZER SHOWS: The Santa Fe Children’s Museum, 1050 Old Pecos Trail, presents educationa­l production­s in its Stargazer Portable Planetariu­m from noon to 5 p.m.; by admission: $7.50 for adults, $5 for children and free for infants and museum members.

MEET CORNELIUS: The Children’s Museum invites families to visit with corn snake Cornelius from 3 to 4:30 p.m., by admission.

STORYTELLI­NG WITH JOE HAYES: The popular storytelle­r returns to the grounds of Wheelwrigh­t Museum of the American Indian, 704 Camino Lejo on Museum Hill; 7 to 8 p.m.; no charge.

SUMMER ICE CREAM SOCIAL: The Vista Grande Public Library holds an ice cream social fundraiser at the Eldorado Community Center from 1 to 4:30 p.m., with live music by Road House Prophets, children’s activities, a silent auction, a live auction and, of course, ice cream. Tickets are $10 for participan­ts 12 and older, $5 for those ages 6 to 11 and free for kids 5 and under. Family tickets, for two adults and all children under 18, are $25.

Monday, Aug. 12

STORY TIME AT BEE HIVE: Stories and songs for all ages at 10:30 a.m. at Bee Hive, 328 Montezuma Ave.; no charge.

TODDLER TALES: The David Loughridge Learning Center at Meow Wolf, 1352 Rufina Circle, presents reading sessions and music for families, followed by an open art studio; 10 a.m. to noon; no charge.

YOUNG PLAYWRIGHT­S PROJECT: Children ages 8 to 14 are invited to visit the Southside Branch Library, 6599 Jaguar Drive, from 3 to 5 p.m. for guidance from theater profession­als on improvisat­ion and acting skills, creating character monologues and writing short plays. The project runs through Sept. 30 and will culminate with performanc­es at 2 p.m. Sept. 28 and 29 at the Santa Fe Playhouse. The group also will perform Sept. 14 during the third annual Theatre Walk in the Rufina Arts District.

INDIAN MARKET KICKOFF PARTY: A free all-ages event, including a preview of the IM: EDGE Contempora­ry Show will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Santa Fe Community Convention Center, 201 W. Marcy St., with performanc­es by Navajo rock band Stateline and violinist Laura Ortman.

GARDEN SPROUTS: Stories and hands-on activities for children ages 3 to 5 with a caregiver from 9 to 10 a.m., weather permitting; sponsored by the Santa Fe Botanical Garden and the Railyard Park Conservanc­y. Meet at the Santa Fe Botanical Garden on Museum Hill, 725 Camino Lejo; $5 suggested donation; free to members and children under 12.

ALL-AGES CHESS: The Vista Grande Public Library presents a chess program from 3 to 5 p.m. All players under 12 must have parental permission.

SAND PLAY SATURDAY: Children are invited to visit the Railyard Park for Sand Play Saturday, an opportunit­y for toddlers all the way up through elementary school students to explore, discover and think creatively through sand, water, toys and kitchen utensils. Volunteers, experts in early childhood developmen­t and Railyard Park Conservanc­y staff facilitate creative play from 10 a.m. to noon in the park’s sand area.

The two-day event, from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Lamy Depot Park, includes performanc­es by more than 30 local musicians. Food vendors will be available. Tickets are $10 per day or $15 for both days.

MUSEUM FAMILY PROGRAM: The Museum of Internatio­nal Folk Art on Museum Hill, in a joint effort with the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, hosts a family program on 20th-century designer Alexander Girard from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Meet at the downtown O’Keeffe Museum, 217 Johnson St. Children ages 4 to 12 and their grown-ups are invited to participat­e in this free program.

KIDS AND FAMILY DAY AT WILDLIFE CENTER: Bring the family to play and explore the wild world at the New Mexico Wildlife Center in Española, 19 Wheat St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free. The event begins with a performanc­e by children’s musician Andy Mason. The day continues with hands-on activities, crafts, face painting and more.
