Movie: The Sound of Music
Julie Andrews’ sweet voice fills the hills in this Academy Award-winning 1965 musical based on the true story of Austria’s Von Trapp family. Andrews plays Maria, the convent-trained governess of a wealthy Austrian’s (Christopher Plummer) children. The score features such songs as “Edelweiss” and “My Favorite Things.” Among those playing the youngsters are Angela Cartwright, Nicholas Hammond and the late Heather Menzies and Charmian Carr.

Movie: Cross Country Christmas Former classmates Lina and Max (Rachael Leigh Cook, She’s All That, and Greyston Holt, Chesapeake Shores) haven’t seen each other in a while, but they decide to travel home together for the Christmas holiday season. Their journey is interrupted by the onset of a powerful storm, though, forcing them to put their heads together and figure out a strategy that will allow them both to make it home to their families in time, even if that involves using some unconventional modes of transportation.

Gayle King hosts this year’s edition of the heartwarming holiday special that features uplifting stories of adoption from foster care, in the process raising awareness of this important social issue. The personal stories are enhanced by performances by such guest artists as Josh Groban, Miranda Lambert, Meghan Trainor, Tony Award winner Leslie Odom Jr. and Andrea Bocelli, pictured, among others.
