Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are among the executive producers of this new true-crime series in which all the cases hang on the common pivot that unearthing a victim’s body holds the key to closing the case. The two-hour premiere starts with the Missouri slaying of Diana Kelley. Years later, another investigation links Kelley’s murder with the death of another resident of the same town.

7 p.m. on PBS Miss Scarlet and the Duke on Masterpiece

Something akin to a Victorian-era take on Veronica Mars, this diverting new crime drama stars Kate Phillips, pictured, as female sleuth Eliza Scarlet, who yearns to follow in the footsteps of her father and mentor Henry (Kevin Doyle, Downton Abbey), a former cop now working as a private eye. Alas, it’s all but impossible for a young woman of Eliza’s times to break into this male-only profession, which is why she’s lucky to be childhood friends with Detective Inspector William “The Duke” Wellington (Stuart Martin) of Scotland Yard.

7 p.m. on CW Batwoman

There’s a new face behind the mask as this superhero series starts its sophomore season following original star Ruby Rose’s shock departure from her lead role as Kate Kane. That latter character is being written out, replaced by Javicia Leslie as Ryan Wilder, who takes up the cape going forward. She’ll battle a scarier-than-ever Alice (Rachel Skarsten) and the security team of Jacob Kane (Dougray Scott), Kate’s troubled father. Camrus Johnson, Nicole Kang and Meagan Tandy are among other Season 1 returnees.

8:30 p.m. on FOOD Cakealikes

As this unconventional “cake off” continues, host Tregaye Fraser challenges the teams of cake artists to render an accurate likeness of music superstar Lady Gaga — whose past flamboyant public appearances have included one she attended while wearing a dress made out of actual meat — in cake form. The diva is in the details for this assignment, and judges Kalen Allen, Natalie Sideserf and guest panelist Erika Smith evaluate which team does the best job.
