Santa Fe New Mexican

ROSALIND D. MITCHELL, MD

-

Heaven has welcomed its newest angel, Rosalind D. Mitchell, MD, who we lost Saturday, January 9 from complications of COVID-19.

Rosalind (Roz) was born in Massachusetts and lived her childhood in New York, Vermont, and Maryland. After graduating from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, she earned her medical degree in 1983 from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland Ohio. She then completed her emergency room internship and residency at LA County USC Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Roz started her career as an ER Physician in Arizona working with the Indian Health Services. Over the next 30 years, she cared for patients across the country including California, Hawaii, Iowa, Nevada, Maine, New Mexico, and even a stint in Saint Croix, US Virgin Islands.

During the approximately 20 years when she was based out of California, not only did she have her emergency medicine practice, but she owned and ran a restaurant and an anti-aging medical spa. She also bred and showed championship Chow Chow dogs and later raised beautiful chickens. After moving to New Mexico, she became the Medical Director of Bright Haven, the regenerative medical spa she founded while continuing her emergency medicine career.

Regardless of where she lived, Rosalind was an avid lover of the outdoors and routinely participated in activities including downhill skiing, cross country skiing, cycling, and hiking. Her first love, however, was gardening; playing in the dirt always made her extremely happy.

Whether you knew her as Rosalind, Roz, Rozi, or Denise, she was deeply loved by her family and friends, and was greatly admired and respected by her colleagues. She will be profoundly missed by us all.

Dr. Rosalind Mitchell is survived by her fiancé David Mudgway, her sister Dr. Debby Burton, and her two brothers, Scott and David Mitchell. Her parents, Edward and Gwendolyn Mitchell have already transitioned and will be united with their precious daughter in Heaven. This world is a darker place in her absence, but Heaven is brighter with her presence.
