RANDALL ROBERT LUTZ

-

Randall R. Lutz, 62, of Santa Fe, died Tuesday, January 12, 2021, a close friend by his side. Born in Danville, Pennsylvania, June 17, 1958, he was the son of Margaret Haas and the late Robert W. Lutz.

Randy was a vibrant member of his community and his accolades are many. His career at the Santa Fe Opera spanned over 40 years, beginning in 1979 as Stage Shop Carpenter, and serving as Properties Director there since 1993. He was a positive and caring force for all who knew him. He was the 2018 recipient of The Wally Russell Mentoring Award from the US Institute for Theatre Technology. His quintessential love for stage properties, theater, and music were revealed through his high professional standards.

Randy was called to the priesthood and ordained in 2006, serving as an Assisting Priest at St. Bede’s Episcopal Church in Santa Fe until his death. He was well-loved by the congregation. His sermons were thoughtful, inspiring, and filled with the light that shone within him. Easter was his favorite worship time. Randy participated in a Mary and Martha Reunion prayer group at the church for 28 years. He was always available to people in need regardless of their situation. He officiated weddings, baptisms, and administered love and warmth to the dying. His pastoral care reached far beyond the walls of the church.

Randy is survived by his mother Margaret Haas, step-father Ray Haas, brother Terrance Lutz and half-brother Robert Lutz. Randy leaves behind many cherished family members, colleagues, and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Sky Center, Santa Fe St. Bede’s Episcopal Church, and The Randall R. Lutz Endowment Fund for Technical Apprentices, c/o The Santa Fe Opera. A memorial will be scheduled at a later date.
