Eric O. Sanders, Santa Fe, March 6

A local legend has passed away. Eric O. Sanders unexpectedly died of a heart attack on March 6, 2021. He was a native of Santa Fe who embraced life to the fullest. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him knew of his boisterous laughter, love of a good prank, open and generous heart, great love of the outdoors, and his sincere commitment to those he loved. Eric was always the first to offer help wherever it was needed. He loved sunrises, adventures, new experiences, and just exploring. A day in the mountains with friends and his two dogs Bandit and Timber was a perfect day for him. Eric’s boundless energy, constant smile, contagious laughter, and great sense of humor will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. He was one of the good guys, a loyal and honest friend. And those who knew him well—especially the women he loved—will miss his goodbyes that always had a “love you darlin” included.

Eric was born at the old St. Vincent’s Hospital downtown on December 13, 1952. A true native son, he lived his entire life in his beloved Santa Fe. He was well known and loved through his work in the restaurant industry which he was a part of for four decades. He was the bar and general manager at the Ore House restaurant downtown, and worked in many other restaurants and hotels throughout his career. Hospitality was something that came naturally to him.

Eric is survived by his brother, Stephen Sanders and Stephen’s wife, Fran, both of Santa Fe. He was preceded in death by his sister, Stacy Sanders Johnson and his mother, Alison Sanders.

Eric Sanders brought laughter, light, and quite a bit of the wild side to the world that surrounded him. He will be forever missed by those lucky enough to call him a friend.

A celebration of Eric’s life will be held on a later date at Tim and Maureen’s.
