Cedric the Entertainer, 57, will be doing double duty this week as host of the 73rd Emmy Awards (Sept. 19 on CBS) and star of season four of his hit CBS sitcom, The Neighborhood (Sept. 20). Here are some fun facts about the former insurance adjuster from Jefferson City, Mo.

✚ Born Cedric Antonio Kyles, he made his acting debut as the Cowardly Lion in a revival production of The Wiz at Harlem’s Apollo Theater in 1995.

✚ He’s the subject, alongside Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley and Bernie Mac, of Spike Lee’s 2000 stand-up comedy documentary The Original Kings of Comedy.

✚ Following his appearance at the 2005 White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C., then–first lady Laura Bush said he was “probably the funniest person” she had ever met.

✚ Cedric turned his love of hats into a business, founding a line of headwear called Who Ced.

✚ The communications graduate from Southeast Missouri State University has voiced animated characters in films including Ice Age, Charlotte’s Web, Madagascar and Planes.
