After Evan (Robert Buckley) inadvertently throws his back out when he comes to the house, the injury forces him to spend a few days recovering on the O’Brien couch in the new episode “What’s New?” What starts out as an inconvenience, however, winds up offering Evan a chance to connect with the family in a way Abby (Meghan Ory) never anticipated. Treat Williams, Barbara Niven and Brendan Penny also star.

Iconic hosts Pat Sajak and Vanna White return to open the sophomore primetime season of their long-running game show, now on a new night. Tonight’s guests include Jason Alexander (“Seinfeld”), playing for Americares; Michael Mizanin, playing for Connor’s Cure at the V Foundation for Cancer Research; and Cheryl Burke, playing for PhilDev. a Philippines-based non-profit.

Kristen Bell makes a guest voice appearance in the Season 33 premiere, “The Star of the Backstage,” in which Marge (voice of Julie Kavner) stages a revival of her beloved high school musical. The nostalgic glow of her happy memories is threatened, however, by the return of a rival from the past. Dan Castellaneta, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith, Hank Azaria and Harry Shearer also are heard.

Season 4 of this police drama opens on a suspenseful, action-packed note as Officer John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) and the entire team frantically race against the clock to find Lopez (Alyssa Diaz) after she is kidnapped on her wedding day in the new “Life and Death.”
