New COVID-19 cases drop to 710 people

New COVID-19 cases are falling quickly.

Deaths are not.

The state Department of Health reported only 710 coronaviru­s cases Tuesday, one of the lowest totals New Mexico has seen in months.

But there were 27 additional deaths, with the state eclipsing 6,700 deaths.

Santa Fe County reported 37 new cases.

There were 14 in Rio Arriba County and eight in Los Alamos County.

Bernalillo County was the lone New Mexico county to report triple figures in new cases, with 252 on Tuesday.

Victims of the virus ranged in age from their 30s to their 80s. Nine were from Bernalillo County, the state’s most populous.

The state said 460 people are hospitaliz­ed with COVID-19.
