Tastemaker trials: Food Network stars battle in winner-takes-all competition

- BY CAROLINE COLLACUTT

The only thing tastier than a delicious meal is a good grudge. An all-new episode of “Superchef Grudge Match” airs Tuesday, Jan. 9, on Food Network.

Host Darnell “Superchef ” Ferguson (“Tournament of Champions”) hosts this competition of culinary fisticuffs, as Ferguson invites chefs from across America to settle personal and professional disputes with their foes in a one-round, one-dish, winner-take-all heavyweight battle.

As Food Network describes: “the food world is filled with bold, brash chefs with egos as big as their resumes, so it is only natural that when chefs collide, beef can turn into bad blood. Darnell invites two pairings of chefs who have some kind of food feud to bring their knives and bury the hatchet once and for all. In the end, the two Grudge Match victors walk out with a $10,000 cash prize, a prized knife from the losing chef ’s knife roll and bragging rights for life!”

Throughout this second season, Ferguson has invited some highly talented Food Network alumni to take part in his challenge, with upcoming episodes seeing the likes of Jay Ducote (“Food Network Star”), Joe Sasto (“The Great Food Truck Race”) and many others enter into the ring. More exciting names are still to come, however, with new episodes rolling out weekly and Food Network promising appearances from chefs Aarti Sequeira (“Aarti Party”), Brian Malarkey (“Beachside Brawl”) and Antonia Lofaso (“Top Chef ”), along with food critic Troy Johnson (“The Best Thing I Ever Ate”).

During this season’s finale episode, for example: “longtime rivals compete in two epic all-star battles for the favor of judges Eric Adjepong [“The Great Soul Food Cook-Off ”] and Stephanie Izard [“Top Chef ”],” Food Network shares. “In the first match, chef Nate Appleman [“The Next Iron Chef ”] takes on chef Amanda Freitag [“Chopped”] to show the world that he’s ready to join the elite corps of chefs who compete on ‘Tournament of Champions’. In the second match, there’s old beef to settle when chef Jonathon Sawyer [“Beat Bobby Flay”] challenges chef Chris Cosentino [“Food Interrupted”] for the title of America’s Meat Master.”

Packed with talent and good taste, new episodes of “Superchef Grudge Match” air Tuesday, Jan. 9, on Food Network.
