HBO leads in 2023’s ‘Creative Arts Emmy Awards’ total nominations
TV is back, and with TV comes awards season: The Creative Arts Emmy Awards honors talent in the industry — in front of the camera and behind — with 2023’s presentation airing Saturday, Jan. 13, on FXX.
Nominations for this year’s awards — which took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles over two consecutive nights: Saturday, Jan. 6, and Sunday, Jan. 7 — were released in 2023, with nominations for a selection of audience favorite categories listed below:
Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series: James Cromwell and Arian Moayed for “Succession” (HBO); and Murray Bartlett, Lamar Johnson, Nick Offerman and Keivonn Montreal Woodard for “The Last of Us” (HBO).
Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series: Becky Ann Baker, Sarah Niles and Harriet Walter for “Ted Lasso” (Apple TV+); Quinta Brunson, “Saturday Night Live” (NBC); Taraji P. Henson, “Abbott Elementary” (ABC); and Judith Light, “Poker Face” (Peacock).
For Outstanding Animated Program: “Bob’s Burgers” (Fox); “Entergalactic” (Netflix); “Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal” (Adult Swim); “Rick and Morty” (Adult Swim) and “The Simpsons” (Fox).
Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series: “Dear Mama” (FX); “100 Foot Wave” (HBO); “Secrets of the Elephants” (Nat Geo); “The 1619 Project” (Hulu) and “The U.S. and the Holocaust” (PBS).
Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program: “Indian Matchmaking” (Netflix); “RuPaul’s Drag Race:
Untucked” (MTV); “Selling Sunset” (Netflix); “Vanderpump Rules” (Bravo) and “Welcome to Wrexham” (FX).
Results and additional categories — including those for writing, directing, costuming, hair and makeup design, production design, choreography, music composition and many more, with 98 total categories — will be presented during the two-night event, encompassing every level of the television-making industry. FXX’s broadcast will highlight the top moments of the night, sharing two evenings of celebration in this condensed, two-hour special.
Currently, “The Last of Us” (HBO) leads in total nominations for this year, with 19 nominations across all categories. “Succession” (HBO) and “Ted Lasso” (Apple TV+) follow in second place, with 13 nominations each. HBO, however, dominates the night overall, with the single most network nods at 83 nominations.
From unexpected favorites, such as Amazon Freevee’s “Jury Duty,” to beloved video games brought to life and high-stakes reality drama, celebrate mastery in the television industry — and more creativity to come — as the “2023 Creative Arts Emmy Awards” air, Saturday, Jan. 13, on FXX.
