FAUSTINA CHAVEZ MADRID

August 31, 1944–MMarch 18, 2024, Santa Fe

-

Faustina “Tina” Chavez Madrid, 79, passed away unexpectedly on March 18, 2024, with loved ones by her side. Her family and friends are heartbroken and saddened by this devastating and sudden loss. Tina was born to parents, Blas and Fedelina Chavez and grew up in Taos, NM. She met then married her loving husband, Abel Manuel Madrid, on March 5, 1966, and had recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. She is survived by her daughter Rebecca “Becky” (Barb), son Abel (Brita), grandchildren Weston and Wyatt, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and many friends. This beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, nurse, and friend to so many leaves all who knew her with an empty hole where her light once shined. As newlyweds, Faustina and Abel made their home in Denver and, in 1979, moved to Santa Fe, where they were able to visit relatives in Taos and Tucumcari. Strong familial ties were a hallmark of this family. In 1981, Faustina returned to school to study nursing, earning a bachelor’s degree and practicing as an RN at Christus St. Vincent Hospital for over 20 years. As an exceptional nurse, she brought confidence and care to her patients and served as a preceptor for many years. Along with visits with friends and family, reading, and relaxing, Faustina loved gardening. She and Abel grew flowers, apricots, and grapes in their yard, which they never regretted, even though every spring their kitchen was overflowing with fruit! She loved spending time with her children and cherished every moment with her beautiful grandchildren. This loss will stay with those who knew Faustina as we celebrate her life and the love she gave so freely. A Catholic service honoring Faustina’s life will take place at St. Anne Parish (511Alicia St. Santa Fe, NM 87505) on April 15th, beginning with a rosary at 9 a.m. and a Mass at 10 a.m. A celebration of Faustina’s life will be held at St. Anne Parish Hall following the mass. Interment will be held the next day, April 16th, at 2:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery (501 Guadalupe St., Santa Fe, NM 87501).
