Pitfalls and pirouettes: ‘Dance Moms’ stars return for 5-year reunion special
Recounting every rehearsal, performance and bow, the girls of “Dance Moms” are back to tell all in the two-hour special event “Dance Moms: The Reunion,” airing Wednesday, May 1, on Lifetime.
Having launched in the summer of 2011 — immediately gaining viewers worldwide —
“Dance Moms” offered a bold and unflinching look at the world of girls competitive dance, building massive, lasting fandom and launching multiple successful spinoffs.
The original nine-season reality series followed the young dancers of Abby Lee Miller’s renowned dance company (located in Pittsburgh) as they trained under Miller to compete in high-stakes dance competitions across the country, rising to stardom as cameras, their often overbearing mothers — the “Dance Moms” in question — and the notoriously difficult Abby Lee watched on for every pitfall and pirouette.
Now, nearly five years after “Dance Moms” hung up its dancing shoes, this reunion special returns some of the franchise’s favorite dancers to the stage — including JoJo Siwa (JoJo’s Juice”), Chloe Lukasiak (“Loophole,” 2019), Brooke Hyland (“Brooke Hyland,” 2013), Paige Hyland (“Lux: It’s Like Summer,” 2021), Kendall Vertes (“Anastasia,” 2020) and Kalani Hilliker (“Dirt”) — as they take a look back at their past spent with the company and at the show that made them household names.
According to a news release shared by Lifetime, the special will feature “new interviews with fan-favorite dancers as they look back at the most memorable moments of the series and discuss the good, the bad and everything in between, including the lasting impact on their entertainment careers.”
Adding to the “Dance Moms” nostalgia, the network adds that new, additional digital content has been dropped online in preparation for the reunion, including in-depth conversations with the “Dance Moms” cast, where they answer burning fan questions and look at some of the most controversial moments from the series. These conversations cover everything from their relationships with their moms, the most amazing wins, epic pyramids, the best group dances and solos, prop and costume chaos, Cathy and the socalled “other side of Abby Lee.”
From “Dance Moms” creator Bryan Stinson, alongside executive producers Sharon Scott (“Power of Women: The Changemakers”), Steve Ascher (“History’s Greatest of All-Time with Peyton Manning”), Kristy Sabat (“The Proof is Out There”), Allie Breslin (“Sell This House”) and Jessica Conway (“Who Do You Think You Are?”) from A+E Factual Studios, “Dance Moms: The Reunion,” premieres Wednesday, May 1, on Lifetime.
