DEAR SEABOURN CLUB MEMBER,
Welcome to this second Seabourn Club Herald of 2017. This is a busy summer season for our fleet of intimate ships, scattered across the northern hemisphere. Seabourn Odyssey and Seabourn Encore are both sailing in the Mediterranean region, showing our guests the gems and UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Spain, France, Italy, the beautiful shores of the Adriatic, and the sun-blessed isles of Greece. Also in the Mediterranean area, construction of our new Seabourn Ovation is proceeding at the shipyard in Italy in anticipation of her launch next spring. Seabourn Quest is in Northern Europe, enjoying the endless days of summer in Scandinavia and St. Petersburg’s famous White Nights, as well as the British Isles and spectacular fjords of Norway. Meanwhile, in North America, Seabourn Sojourn is celebrating our return to the scenic splendors, fascinating wildlife and frontier cultures of Alaska and British Columbia after an absence of 15 years.
In this issue, we present an eclectic mix of topics to tantalize your inner traveler. Two cities that display mind-bending mixes of ancient traditions and hyper-modern development are examined in descriptions of China’s astounding port city of Shanghai by Richard Varr and a feature on dazzling Dubai by Terry Elward.
Jack Feerick reveals five different fjords in five different locations, none of which are anywhere near Norway. Stephen Grasso plumbs the depths of Gibraltar’s innermost caverns to ferret out the facts about the Rock’s earliest inhabitants, and our appetites are whetted by an article about cheeses of the Riviera by Alex Darlington.
This issue also includes news about the ships, itineraries and the crew who make you at home on board, pictures from Club members, wellness tips, and more.
Wherever you are, and whatever season you are celebrating, we send our best wishes, and we hope to welcome you back on board one of our ships soon.
Sincerely, Richard Meadows President
