The morn­ing you de­part a Seabourn ship at the end of a voy­age is bit­ter­sweet — a mo­ment all too fa­mil­iar to Seabourn Club mem­bers. It’s just plain hard bid­ding fond farewell to friends you have made on board, and to crew mem­bers who have cared for you so thought­fully. But per­haps even more wrench­ing is the ag­o­niz­ing re­al­iza­tion that “your” ship will now be sail­ing on with­out you, dis­cov­er­ing new and in­trigu­ing ports and ex­pe­ri­enc­ing ad­ven­tures you would dearly love to share.

To ease that dis­tress, or at least to post­pone it for a while, Seabourn be­gan de­sign­ing itin­er­ar­ies that of­fered op­por­tu­ni­ties for guests to com­bine mul­ti­ple voy­ages and sim­ply stay on board to en­joy an ex­tended ex­plo­ration of even more ex­tra­or­di­nary ports of call. Ex­tended Ex­plo­rations op­por­tu­ni­ties con­tinue to ap­pear on var­i­ous itin­er­ar­ies of most Seabourn ships in dif­fer­ent sea­sons and dif­fer­ent re­gions of the world, but in 2018 and 2019, Seabourn has taken the un­prece­dented step of ded­i­cat­ing a large por­tion of Seabourn So­journ’s sched­ule to itin­er­ar­ies specif­i­cally de­signed for Ex­tended Ex­plo­rations.

Ex­tended Ex­plo­rations of­fer the sort of en­hanced travel ex­pe­ri­ences long-cruise lovers de­mand: itin­er­ar­ies are en­riched with fre­quent overnight stays or ex­tended stays in se­lect ports of call. Seabourn Con­ver­sa­tions guest lec­tur­ers on board are fo­cused on top­ics per­ti­nent to the des­ti­na­tions. Menus and wine lists are crafted to in­clude sea­sonal pro­duce, lo­cal vin­tages and the re­gions’ unique fla­vors and in­flu­ences, and lo­cal en­ter­tain­ment and cul­tural per­for­mances are planned for guests’ en­joy­ment on board.

By com­bin­ing seg­ments of Seabourn So­journ’s an­nual de­ploy­ment in 2018 and 2019, long-cruise afi­ciona­dos can ex­tend their travel ex­pe­ri­ences through months and even whole sea­sons of ul­tra-lux­ury ex­plo­ration in in­com­pa­ra­ble Seabourn ele­gance and ease.

An ex­cel­lent ex­am­ple is the 72-day Africa & the Pa­cific Realm voy­age sail­ing from Cape Town, South Africa, to Hong Kong, China. Dur­ing that ex­tended voy­age, guests aboard Seabourn So­journ will sail through three great oceans, visit­ing 33 ports of call in 16 coun­tries. They will en­joy overnight stays in nine of those ports, and in both Thi­lawa (Ran­goon) and Sin­ga­pore, their stay will ex­tend over three days. Along with mar­quee ports such as Dur­ban, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City and Manila, they will dis­cover hid­den gems such as Re­u­nion Is­land, Thai­land’s Sim­i­lan Is­lands, Su­lawesi and Coron in the Philip­pine Ar­chi­pel­ago. They will share the voy­age with ex­perts on the re­gions where they are sail­ing, and ven­ture ashore in se­lect ports to go Shop­ping with the Chef in lo­cal mar­kets. Best of all, through­out this epic ad­ven­ture they will en­joy the good life aboard an ul­tra-lux­ury Seabourn ship.
