Man allegedly assaulted disabled roommate

-

A city man was arrested Friday after his disabled roommate accused him of whipping him with a television cable, according to police and court documents.

Police arrested Amos J. Ortiz, 26, of Charles Street, and charged him with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery on a disabled person with injury, according to court documents.

The victim told the responding officer that Ortiz whipped him with the television cable and he was placed in fear because he can’t defend himself.

Police said the 57-yearold victim is confined to a wheelchair because he lost a leg and that he had marks on his back from the assault.

When arraigned on Tuesday, Ortiz was ordered held in lieu of posting $500 cash bail or $5,000 surety bond.

Ortiz is scheduled to return to court on Feb. 24 for a pre-trial hearing.

When an officer responded to a report of an assault by a daughter of her mother, the suspect resisted arrest and assaulted a police officer, according to police and court documents.

Police reported Monica Montanez, 33, of Westminster Street, was arrested after she punched her 61-year-old mother in the face on Sunday.

When the responding officer attempted to arrest Montanez, she resisted and punched the officer in the groin area, police reported.

As a result, Montanez was charged with assault and battery on person 60 years or older, assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest, according to court documents.

When arraigned, Montanez was released on personal recognizance and ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation and report to the probation office once a month, according to court documents.

She is due to return to court on March 12 for a pre-trial hearing.
