A critical response to recent Dan Phelps column

-

I wanted to let you know how totally irresponsible I believe the people in charge at your newspaper are for allowing Mr. Dan Phelps to express his inane and dangerous opinions in a front page article in your newspaper.

As a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Era, I am quite aware of people’s rights to free speech under the Constitution but nowhere under the Constitution does it give you the right to put other people’s lives in danger.

It is quite evident that the only person Mr. Phelps cares about is himself and that he does not have any regard for anyone else.

He does not care for the welfare of people like myself who have compromised immune systems for various reasons.

If he believes that following the guidelines for social distancing are not important, then he should take a serious look at states like Arizona where they have been totally disregarded.

In closing, please be advised that I will be canceling my subscription to your newspaper because of total disregard for people’s safety and I will be suggesting that everyone I know do the same.

All three point out a very important fact that we should all realize NOW: Americans are losing their freedoms every day. And it is time we stood up and said, “No more.”

We are losing our freedom of speech. TV shows and newspapers are being censored.

People are losing their jobs for speaking out, or even worse, getting death threats. Much of this has been led by Black Lives Matter.

It does not represent the views of all blacks.

Our cities are being trashed, our businesses looted, while our mayors and governors, out of complicity or stupidity, are allowing it to happen.

We need to speak up before it is all lost forever. The calendar may say 2020, but it is George Orwell’s 1984 coming true.
