Fitchburg woman arrested for allegedly purposely crashing into car

FITCHBURG » Upset that her ex-boyfriend was being brought coffee by another woman, a city woman allegedly purposely crashed into the woman’s car, violating an abuse prevention order, according to police and court documents.

Police were alerted to the incident Sunday when the victim went to the police station to report the confrontat­ion between her and Cassandra J. Barry, 36, of Wood Street ear

lier in the day, police said.

The victim told police she was bringing some coffee to a male friend and when she pulled up to the man’s residence, she was confronted by Barry.

The two exchanged words while both were sitting in their vehicles, when Barry got out of her vehicle and slapped the coffee the victim was handing to her friend out of her hand, spilling it into the victim’s car, the victim told police.

The victim then left in her vehicle and Barry followed, eventually crashing her car into the victim’s car at an intersecti­on, the victim told police.

With the informatio­n from the victim, police went to the residence and placed her under arrest, police said.

At the time of the incident, the victim had a harassment prevention order against Barry, police said.

As a result of the incident, Barry was charged with assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and violating the HPO, according to court documents.

When arraigned on Monday, Barry, who pleaded not guilty, was released on personal recognizan­ce and ordered to

stay away from the victim and return to court on March 2 for a pretrial hearing, according to court documents.
