Lopez hopes former co-star Diamond is ‘Saved by the Bell’
Dustin Diamond’s former Bayside High classmates are sending wellwishes after their “Saved by the Bell” co-star was diagnosed with cancer.
Mario Lopez and Tiffani Thiessen, who played jock A.C. Slater and head cheerleader Kelly Kapowski, respectively, in the hit 1990s sitcom, both reacted Thursday to news that Diamond, who played the geeky Samuel “Screech” Powers, had been hospitalized for cancer in Florida.
A representative for Diamond told Entertainment Weekly on Thursday that the cancer is Stage 4 and Diamond is receiving chemotherapy.
“I connected with Dustin earlier this evening and although the news of his diagnosis is heartbreaking, we remain positive that he’ll overcome this,” Lopez posted Thursday on Instagram, along with a split photo of the pair during their “Saved by the Bell” days and more recently. “Praying for him & his family and for a speedy recovery. God Bless.”
“Thinking of you Dustin,” Thiessen wrote on her Instagram story.
Diamond’s team confirmed his diagnosis Thursday via Facebook after the 44-year-old actor was admitted to a hospital in his home state of Florida last week. According to a TMZ report earlier this week, Diamond was hospitalized after experiencing body pain.
Ariel Pink to Tucker Carlson: ‘People are so mean’
Days after attending a rally that led to a deadly right-wing insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, the LA indie musician Ariel Pink tried to defend his actions on Fox News host Tucker Carlson’s show on Thursday.
“I had no choice, there’s nothing else for me to do,” Pink said, looking shaken and nervous. “I can’t even afford my lawyer right now.”
Pink, an acclaimed but antagonizing fixture of LA’s experimental music scene, has become an unlikely far-right martyr-hero after photos of him attending the Jan. 6 “Stop the Steal” rally surfaced.
Within hours, Pink was dropped by his label Mexican Summer and came under fierce backlash from fans.
Pink had previously appeared on Fox News in 2013 and had recently expressed support for Trump. But on Carlson’s show, Pink tried to explain his presence at a rally that ended in a violent mob of President Donald Trump’s supporters taking the seat of government by siege.
“I went to the White House to see our president, I went to the hotel, took a nap, end of story,” he said, claiming he was not at the site of the attempted overthrow of American government. “I was there for a peaceful rally, that’s all it was to me.”
Carlson seemed aware that he was dealing with an unexpected MAGA martyr figure from the edge of LA experimental music. “You’re taking a huge risk coming on this show, why are you doing it?” he asked.
“I don’t have any other recourse,” Pink said. “What am I gonna do?”
