Few choices for voters

Pepperell, Townsend go to polls Monday

PEPPERELL » It’s election day Monday for two Nashoba Valley communitie­s: Pepperell and Townsend.

Voting in Pepperell is from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Peter Fitzpatric­k School cafeteria at 45 Main St. Townsend’s polling

hours are 8 a.m. through 8 p.m. at Town Hall, 272 Main St.

In Pepperell, Mark Matthews is unopposed in seeking the three-year Select Board term that was held by William Greathead. Greathead passed away at age 59 in February.

Matthews currently serves as the chair of the Economic Advisory Developmen­t Council.

Craig Hansen and David Carney are unopposed in seeking re-election to three-year terms on the North Middlesex Regional School District School Committee. Hansen currently serves as the committee’s chair.

Maureen Bolger is seeking re-election for a threeyear term on the Board of Assessors. Carol Case is seeking re-election to the Lawrence Library Trustees for three more years and Charles Walkovich is seeking a new five-year term on the Planning Board. Bolger, Case, and Walkovich are also running without opposition.

Pepperell will also see several newcomers unopposed in their races. Renee D’Argento is seeking a three-year term on the Board of Health and Stephen Themelis is seeking a one-year term. Joyce Morrow is seeking a four-year term on the Planning Board. Diane Murphy is seeking the second threeyear term on the Lawrence Library Trustees.

No candidates will appear on the ballot for the three-year term at the Board of Public Works, five-year term on the Housing Authority, or either the three-year or twoyear terms on the Recreation Commission.

In Townsend, newcomer Charles Sexton-Diranian will be the lone candidate on the ballot for a threeyear term on the Board of Selectmen. Sexton-Diranian is expected to replace incumbent Wayne Miller who did not pull papers for re-election.

Sexton-Diranian currently serves as the clerk of the Planning Board and is a member of the Townsend Housing Authority.

Jessica Ann Funaiole is seeking a three-year term on the North Middlesex Regional School District School Committee. Funaiole is running unopposed to replace Rob Templeton, who isn’t seeking re-election.

Four candidates will be seeking re-election without opposition, including John Barrett who is seeking new three-year terms as both moderator and as a member of the Cemetery and Parks Commission.

Judith Lewin Maider is seeking a new three-year term on the Board of Library Trustees, and Stephen Spofford is seeking a new three-year term as the veteran member on the Trustees of Soldiers Memorials.

Townsend also has several newcomers running unopposed. Gavin Byars is seeking a three-year term on the Board of Health.

Michael Virostko is seeking a two-year term on the Planning Board, and Christophe­r Jones is seeking a three-year term on the Board of Water Commission­ers.

No candidates on the ballot for either the threeyear or two-year term on the Amanda E. Dwight Entertainm­ent Committee. Both three-year terms on the Recreation Commission, a three-year non-veteran seat on the Trustees of Soldiers Memorials, a fiveyear seat on the Townsend Housing Authority, an additional three-year seat on the Board of Library Trustees, and both a five-year and a four-year seat on the Planning Board are without candidates.
