Cleanup days on tap
FITCHBURG » Mayor Stephen DiNatale, along with the Department of Health and the Department of Public Works, is inviting the community to participate in the 2021 Annual Ward Cleanups for streets and parks, according to a press release from the city.
These ward cleanup efforts involve support from
community groups, businesses, schools and civic groups working together to make the community more welcoming and vibrant. “This year, more than ever, we need our residents support,” DiNatale said. “By volunteering to clean up your neighborhoods, parks and roadways you are investing in our great city and promoting community pride. Fitchburg has numerous parks and trails that enhance our quality of life and we need many volunteering hands to help maintain these inviting and beautiful spaces. ”
This year’s Ward Cleanups have been scheduled for three consecutive Saturday events:
■ Wards 4 & 5 – April 24, from 8 a.m.-noon at FPS Parking at the corner of Academy and High street.
■ Wards 1 & 6 – May 1, from 8 a.m.-noon at IC Credit Union, 300 Bemis Road
■ Wards 2 & 3 – May 8, from 8 a.m.-noon at Daniels Street Park ( Lower Cleghorn)
Volunteers are needed to help with litter pickup along our streets and parks. Dumpsters will be available at each location for bulk items and non-residential trash found throughout the ward.
Staff from the DPW will be available to aid in picking up large items that volunteers are unable to bring to the transfer sites, as well as curbside trash bags from large neighborhood clean ups. City personnel will also be available at each transfer site to assist with the disposal.
DPW Street Sweepers will also be out in the wards during each ward cleanup. Please sweep sidewalk debris onto the street, however, kindly refrain from creating piles.
Light refreshments will be provided for breakfast and lunch at the transfer site. The Health Department will supply yellow trash bags, gloves and masks at each event.
