Three Fitchburg men arrested on assault charges after allegedly confrontin­g woman with weapons

FITCHBURG » After police were called to 21 Gage St., Tuesday night on a report of a disturbanc­e involving three men with weapons, including a gun, the men were arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, according to police and court documents.

When officers arrived at the

Gage Street residence, they spoke with a woman who told them the three men standing across the street from her when the officers arrived had threatened her with the weapons, the reporting officer said.

The woman told the officers she was at the residence to remove her personal belongings which was when James Roland, 40, of Middle Street, Erick A. Catterton, 38, of Elizabeth Street, and Darrell S. Flemming, 46, of Valley Street, walked up to her and told her to leave because they needed to board up the residence, the officer reported.

She also told officers Catterton was carrying a handgun — which was located and found to be a BB gun — and that he pointed it in her direction.

She also said Roland was carrying a machete and Flemming was carrying a bat, which was later determined to be a large stick, the officer reported.

Because the three were there, admitted they were carrying weapons, officers arrested them on the assault charge, the officer reported.

When arraigned Wednesday, all three pleaded not guilty, according to court documents.

Roland and Catterton were ordered held in lieu of posting a $1,500 cash bail and Flemming was ordered held in lieu of a $500 cash bail, according to court documents.

On Thursday, each remained in custody at the Worcester County House of Correction, according to a spokeswoma­n with the Worcester County Sheriff ’s Office.
