Citywide yard sale is this Saturday, Sunday
FITCHBURG » If you are one of those people who cleaned out and purged during the pandemic, the citywide yard sale this Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. is a great way to lighten your load — or find some treasures.
Organizer and At-large City Councilor Sam Squailia started the event five years ago after city residents asked for it. It has been held every spring and fall since then, minus last year due to COVID concerns.
“It helps connect the community of Fitchburg, it helps draw shoppers in from all around the sur
rounding cities and towns,
and the people love it,” Squailia said.
The first year they got a few dozen people. This past spring there were over 100 addresses, and so far, over 40 households have registered for this weekend’s event.
“It has grown every year,” Squailia said.
Feedback from both sellers and shoppers about the citywide yard sales has been nothing short of positive.
Squailia said one person said, “Met so many pleasant people, everyone was in an upbeat mood. Great actually interacting with real live people after being shut in for so long,” and another said, “It was great, nice to get rid of stuff you no longer need or haven’t used in a while.”
People are encouraged to put up signs advertising their own yard sale and remove them in a timely manner after the yard sale is over.
If you want to be included in the printable list, register by Thursday night. To be included on the citywide map, register by Friday night.
