Wolves cruise to win in tourney

Straface has hat trick in victory

The Nashoba Regional field hockey team made quick work of visiting Whitman-Hanson Regional on Thursday evening as the host Wolves blanked the Panthers 8- 0 in the opening round of the MIAA Div. 2 state tournament.

With the win, the fourth-seeded Wolves (14-2-2) advance to the Round of 16 where they will host No. 13 Notre Dame of Hingham on Monday evening.

Nashoba was led offensivel­y by Graham Straface, who potted a hat trick while adding an assist. Teammates Lela Boermeeste­r netted two goals and an assist and Ali Vanasse scored a goal and two assists for the winners.

In all, five different Wolves found the back of the net on Thursday.

Nashoba jumped out to 3- 0 halftime lead thanks to a pair of goals in the first quarter and a goal in the second quarter. The hosts tacked on five more tallies in the final 30 minutes to seal the deal.

Nashoba goalie Lauren Basteri made three saves in net for the hosts.

Bella Perritano had seven kills, four digs and an ace in the win, while Madi LaCreta had 15 kills and three blocks and Emma Chase had seven digs, six kills and four aces for North Middlesex.

The Patriots will next face the winner of tonight’s matchup between No. 6 Bedford and No. 27 Bishop Stang.
