Catania Oils has adopted Westford Road as part of the town’s new litter and beautification program, Clean Ayer.

As a sponsor, Catania Oils will subsidize road cleaning on Westford Road twice a year. The work will be performed by the roadway litter removal company Adopt-a-highway Litter Removal Service of America Inc.

Director of Community and Economic Development Alan Manoian first introduced the Clean Ayer Roadside Litter Removal program in 2020. The program is intended to reduce the strain roadside waste can have on local ecosystems, while beautifying the town’s appearance.

To highlight the sponsorship, Catania Oils worked with the town to design and produce roadway signs measuring 3feet by 3-feet. The signs were unveiled at a ceremony attended by senior leaders from Catania Oils, Town Manager Robert Pontbriand and Manoian. Clean Ayer program.

“Catania Oils has once again demonstrated its noteworthy local civic leadership in partnering with the Town of Ayer in launching the Pilot Project ‘Clean Ayer’ Roadside Litter Removal Program along Ayer’s Westford Rd. Corridor,” Manoian said in a statement. “We appreciate the company’s contin

ued contributions to the betterment of the Town of Ayer and the entire region.”

Clean Ayer is one of several initiatives designed to enhance the town’s appearance and reduce waste. Keep Ayer Beautiful, affiliated with the Great Massachusetts Cleanup, is an annual weekend-long event organized by Ayer’s Recycling Committee. Since 2012, this event has prevented 100 tons of material from entering the waste stream.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to give back to our community and enhance the Town of Ayer’s persistent efforts to keep our roads clean,” Catania Oils President Joseph Basile said.
