Falcons pound out runs against MCLA

FSU softball team takes both games of doublehead­er

The Fitchburg State softball team swept MCLA, winning 4-2 and 19- 4 in a doublehead­er on the road Saturday.

Sarah Cahill was 3-for- 6 in the opener, driving in two, while Dana Cisowski and Julia Gauvin each had a double and an RBI. Cahill earned the win, pitching all seven innings and striking out nine.

In the second game, the Falcons scored 11 runs in the top of the first and never looked back.

Ella Marshall record five RBI for FSU ( 17-20) and Audrey Johnson drove in four. Julia Gauvin had a homer and two RBI and Cisowski, Lundyn Forcier and Isabella Sousa each drove in a pair for the Falcons, who pounded out 18 hits.

Stefanie Poulin earned the win, pitching three of the five innings, scattering four hits and striking out a pair. Mackenzie Leveille worked around five hits and a walk in her two innings of relief.

College baseball

Fitchburg State split at MCLA, falling 7- 5 before bouncing back for a 21- 6 victory.

Brendan Ferrell went 1- for- 3 with two RBI in the opener, while Vincent Eramo ( 2- for- 4) and Liam Goldstein ( 1- for- 3) each had a single RBI. Connor Morehouse scored twice in the loss.

The Falcons (9-28) rebounded by pounding out 24 hits in the second contest, with seven FSU players recording multiple hits.

Zachary Malek went 1- for- 3 with a homer and drove in three, while Morehouse was 5- for- 6 with four RBI.

Ferrell picked up the win, tossing five innings of five- hit ball and allowing four runs (two earned). He struck out five and walked two to improve to 2-5 on the season.

College track and field

The Fitchburg State men’s outdoor track and field team placed third with a total of 130 points at the 2022 MASCAC Championsh­ip at Bridgewate­r State, while the FSU women finished fifth with 50 points.

Sophomore Nicholas Zeoli won the discus with a toss of 41.80 meters and the shot put ( 13.75m), while junior Gene Bouthiette ( Bridgeport, Conn.)

captured the title in the pole vault with a jump of 3.55 meters.

Junior Eric Shimiyiman­a finished second in the triple- jump ( 13.20m) and fifth in the long jump and classmate Nathan Felix earned a second- place finish in the 100- meter dash with a time of 10.86 seconds.

Sophomore Taban Manyok notched three separate secondplac­e finishes in the 1500 meters ( 4: 10.62), the 800 meters ( 1: 59.99) and the 5000 meters ( 16: 07.49). and classmate Zion Barber-amardo placed third in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.94 seconds.

The 4x800 relay team of Trevor Fields, Tyssen Labombard, Nicholas Sachetta and Manyok

captured the MASCAC title with a time of 8: 25.15.

For the women, freshman Ephemian Bailey earned second place in both the shot put ( 10.74m) and the discus ( 35.31m), earning 16 points.

Mason Brassard matched a program record with seven goals for Leominster ( 3- 6), while Cam Vitone ( three assists), Jake Tocci ( assist) and Michael Halstead each had single goals.

Collin Dudek netted all six Lunenburg ( 3- 5) goals. OAKMONT 14, SHEPHERD HILL 7 »

Austin Grimley potted five goals and Evan Thibault added four

goals and an assist as Oakmont improved to 4-2. Colton Larose chipped in with three goals, Hayden Chatigny dished out a pair of helpers and Tyler Nally stopped eight shots between the pipes.

Girls lacrosse

OAKMONT 11, SHEPHERD HILL 1 » Freshman Ashlynn Tata, sophomore Gabby Romano and junior Sophia Wolanske each scored twice for the Spartans. Sarah Sicard, Ella Dellasanta, Haley Bosselait, Marley Waalkes and Payton Collette each added single markers and freshman netminder Annika Sallila stopped seven shots to earn the victory.
